The task of providing direct caregiving to a loved one can be fulfilling and daunting at the same time. Even the most dedicated caregiver needs an occasional break to rest, do errands, go shopping or even spend time with friends and family. This is called respite time.
Setting aside one day a week for respite time is a good goal, but managing a break even once a month is a start. It’s preferrable to take an entire day of “me” time so you have adequate time to rest and tend to your personal needs.
Who can you find to help you? First try to seek help from family and friends. You may find that many will be happy to pitch in to assist.
If no one can assist you with respite time, then there are many home care agencies that can step up to the task. However, before you hire professional services, you should look at available resources in the community which may be able to help.
