Medication non-compliance and overdoses are major reasons for emergency room visits or hospitalizations. Managing a complicated schedule with multiple medications is difficult and can become even more challenging as a senior ages. An early warning sign to look for is the appearance of empty or open medication bottles left in various places around the home.
Consider using a medication box to help organize the process. Several assorted styles are available at your local drug store, and you should be able to find one (or some combination of boxes) that will accommodate your schedule.
You can recruit a family member or hire a care professional to fill the medication boxes on a regular basis. If reminders are needed, a caregiver can call the senior or even drop by in person to remind your loved one to take their medication.
