Make an Emergency Plan

Emergency Plan Handbook

If you don’t have an Emergency Plan, now is a good time to develop one. (If you already have one, you should review and update it as needed.)

Hawaiian Electric has a FREE Emergency Preparedness Handbook to help you prepare.  Click here for the link.Emergency Preparedness Handbook | Hawaiian Electric

Some Suggestions about Where to start:

1. Communication

  • Identify someone to be a contact person who is outside of your immediate area. This is someone with whom you and your family can communicate. You and other family members can send them status reports and let them know that you are safe.
  • Have a charged cellphone and battery-operated radio to communicate and get updates about the emergency.

2.  Evacuation

  • Select a meeting place for family members. Identify an alternate location if your home is not safe or available.
  • Know driving routes to get to the meeting location.

3. Shelter

  • Identify safe places in your home.
  • Identify the closest shelter and know the best way to get there if you need to evacuate.
